Winter storm watch for Howe Sound

Staff report
December 30, 2021 5:16pm

A significant winter storm is expected this weekend in Howe Sound. A strong storm system moving across the BC coast will bring heavy snow to the region starting Saturday morning.

Snow will persist over inland sections through the weekend with snowfall amounts of 30 up to 45 cm expected.

Regions near the coast including Squamish will likely see snow transitioning to rain mixed with wet snow on Sunday as freezing levels rise. Rain will ease Sunday evening as the storm system continues to move southeastward exiting the region.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
