District of Squamish has received development permit application for residential and office buildings on Oceanfront Squamish. The building called ‘Residential One’ will be located close to the Sp’akw’us Feather park and will be the first building on site to include residential units and commercial space.

As many as 12 townhomes and 84 apartments are planned along with 10,494 square feet of commercial space. The development consists of two separate buildings connected by a parkade.

The District has also received a development permit application for the first office building with retail at Oceanfront Squamish. The proposed building is a four-storey building and will be constructed with mass timber.

The building called “Works_One” is located in the southernmost portion of “The Works” neighbourhood on Oceanfront Squamish. Mass timber products use wood, a renewable and sustainable resource, as an alternative to more fossil fuel-intensive materials such as steel and concrete, the proponent says.

“Works_One as its first dedicated office building, is designed to provide an exciting and beautiful workplace for local businesses as well as attract newcomers and visitors to explore the area,” says Oceanfront Squamish.

The developers envision it as an employment space that will help establish a ‘year-round thriving community independent of the seasons and inclement weather’.

Last year, the District had also received a development permit application for a presentation centre, along with a restaurant and brewery that provides a number of indoor and outdoor seating areas with views of the water.

So Sad. Squamish is just completely ruined now. District allowing the market to be glutted with condos and townhomes. For the tax base no doubt. Shame on them. Paradise Lost.

This is awesome! Great to see the waterfront finally getting to the start line of development after all these years. Looking forward to seeing more of the master plan.
