Community invited to film screening, discussion on mental health

Staff report
February 5, 2022 1:48pm

The Squamish Public Library, Under One Roof, and the Sea-to-Sky Community Action Team are inviting community members to an online screening of Dr. Gabor Mate’s film, The Wisdom of Trauma. The screening will be followed by a virtual community conversation on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 6 to 9 pm.

The screening and the discussion that will follow will aim to bring Squamish together to have an open and respectful dialogue around trauma, addiction, mental health, and healing. The film is a helpful tool for supporting these kinds of conversations and encourages the development of a trauma-informed community.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free program. Participants are encouraged to join in together within current provincial public health order restrictions on personal gatherings. Under One Roof will provide food to these small watch parties. To get more information about this, email library@squamish.ca.

The number of viewers for the free online film screening will be capped at 50 (first-come, first-served), but anyone who has seen the film previously is invited to the conversation starting at 7:30 pm. The film is also available to watch by donation through the Wisdom of Trauma’s website.

Registration for each individual participant for the film and conversation is required. Those who register for the film will have 48 hours to watch it (February 16, 6 pm to February 18, 6 pm).
Participants can register for the free film and/ or community conversation on the Squamish Library website at squamishlibrary.ca/events/event/wisdom-of-trauma-film-screening-community-conversation/.
