Unusually cold temperatures in store for Howe Sound

Staff report
February 21, 2022 12:46am

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Howe Sound. A period of unusually cold temperatures and strong outflow winds can be expected.

Overnight minimum temperatures will range from near minus 5 to minus 10. This cold snap will last from Monday night through to Wednesday night.

“A change in the weather is expected as a cold arctic air mass arrives on the B.C. coast Monday. Minimum temperatures near minus 5 to minus 10 will combine with outflow winds to produce cold wind chill values near minus 10 to 15 during the overnight period,” says the weather agency.

Temperatures will moderate during the day, but will remain well below seasonal normal. The outflow winds will be strongest near Howe Sound and the Fraser Valley. There is also a chance of seeing a few light flurries over the Fraser Valley Monday night into early Tuesday morning.

“Temperatures will gradually warm late this week. Be prepared for cold temperatures and strong winds. Dress warmly in layers if outside. Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals,” the agency cautions.
