One person is dead following a rock slide that took place last week near Lillooet, police confirmed today.
On February 28, at 2:30 pm Lillooet RCMP received a report of a rockslide on Highway 40. The person who called the police also reported a commercial vehicle with a man in the vehicle who was deceased. The vehicle had come to a stop against the rock face.
Lillooet RCMP and BC Ambulance attended, and the police confirmed on the weekend that one male driver had died in this incident.
Initial investigations led police to believe the cause of death appeared to be from a rockslide that struck the cab of the vehicle. Due to further rockslide concerns, Highway 40 was closed to all westbound traffic near Yalakom Rd, at the Yalakom River crossing.
“This was an extremely tragic incident,” said Constable Andrew Hodges of the Lillooet RCMP.
While the man’s next-of-kin have been notified, the name of the man is not being released, and the investigation has been turned over the BC Coroner.
