Capilano University has confirmed that it is buying land at Oceanfront Squamish.
The University will pay $5 million to buy two acres of waterfront property in the Oceanfront Squamish development.
CapU is also exploring a financing plan to improve the bordering foreshore area and road construction to enable access to the property.
Design plans for the Squamish campus are in preliminary stage, though it will be a purpose-built hub of higher education, CapU said.
“This is an exciting step forward towards realizing our priority of delivering relevant high-quality educational programming in Squamish, for the benefit of communities along the Sea-to-Sky corridor,” says Paul Dangerfield, president of Capilano University. “The timing of the agreement allows CapU the opportunity to choose its preferred site location in the 100-acre mixed-use development incorporating new homes, businesses, industries and green spaces.”
Capilano University is committed to ongoing engagement with the community and regular updates on this major project as developments unfold, the university added.
