Friends of a local mortgage broker battling aggressive leukemia have set up a GoFundMe Page for her. Roopy Toor was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia which required her immediate admission in Vancouver General Hospital.

According to her friends, Toor has spent the last eight weeks in VGH receiving chemo treatment, which has ravaged her immune system. Because of the risk to her system, the number of visitors she could see was extremely limited as she could not be exposed to outside germs – including being unable to see her son, Ari.

While she has recently been allowed to leave VGH but must stay within 30 minutes of the hospital, which means she cannot come home to Squamish.

The family has had to rent an apartment in Vancouver for outpatient chemo for the next 5 months.

“Despite starting to sell off several assets, their inability to work during this time, their need to rent a new place close to the hospital, and gas prices being so high for commuting are rapidly depleting their resources,” the friends say.

“They are not ones to ask for help, so we are asking for them. Roopy and Tylor are both amazingly generous community members and friends of Squamish. We’re asking for people to help out and give any amount you can. Please share this through the community and through your networks.”
