Construction on the second phase of the Sea to Sky Business park is expected to begin next month with units coming on the market by June 2023.
The first phase of the project by Solterra brought over 100,000 square feet of service retail, warehouse, indoor recreation and accessory office space to the business park.
The second phase will have up to 45 units with 70,000 square feet of warehouse space in two buildings. Building 1 will be a 26,308 square feet building offering warehouse and service retail, while the second building will be a 41,063 square feet building offering warehouse and service retail.
Finding customers won’t be an issue considering the demand for such type of space, says realtor Darren McCartney. “We are already seeing an interest in this new project for somewhere between 40 and 50 per cent of the units,” said McCartney, the lead realtor on the project.
Darren said about 50 per cent of those interested in moving in are local businesses while others are from outside the community. “We have seen a real range of businesses moving in the Phase 1, a lot of whole sale distribution businesses, rec-tech, service and outdoor recreation, van and camping related companies. There is a lot of a unique business who have moved to this town and are interested in this kind of space,” he said.
While the second phase of the business park offers wholesale space, about 30 per cent of the space can be accessory retail. There is interest in the space from a variety of businesses, be it warehouse distributors, recreation companies or existing businesses who want to expand but don’t have a place to do so, he says. Squamish, he added, is desperate for this type of space in town.
“We cant build this fast enough,” McCartney said, adding that businesses that move in the development will offer well-paying jobs. “When you are a business that is offering a good wage, then other businesses in the area also thrive,” he said.
