90-day roadside prohibition for drunk driver in Squamish

staff report
September 7, 2022 8:17am

A drunk driver’s car was impounded and they were issued an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days.

On September 1, local officers were doing a road check for driver sobriety when officers stopped a driver who showed physical signs of impairment that included blood shot eyes, slurred speech, and slow movements.

The man failed breath samples after which his car was impounded and he was issued an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days.

On September 3, sometime overnight, thieves stole a Catalytic converter from a Toyota Sequoia parked in the 40700 block of Tantalus Road.

Thefts from vehicles

Between August 31 and September 5, as many as 13 thefts from autos occurred in the community.  In majority of cases, car doors were insecure. Thieves stole  wallets, sunglasses, keys, access cards, iPhone.

Squamish RCMP says thieves are targeting various neighborhoods typically during the night.  Police encourage people to report directly or through online crime reporting

Interesting how property crimes have skyrocketing since the opening of Helping Hands Shelter most of the residents clients are not from Squamish and it’s closed to the homeless most of the day except mealtimes, no programs so they have plenty of time to case neighborhoods on their free bikes
