Major winter storm in forecast for Squamish

Staff report
November 29, 2022 7:54am

A major winter storm is expected in the Howe Sound, Whistler, and Sea to Sky from Squamish to Whistler. This afternoon through Wednesday, heavy snow is to be expected with snowfall accumulations of 25 to 40 cm.

Strong outflow winds with gusts up to 90 km/h can are in forecast for south of Squamish tonight.  The combination of heavy snow and strong winds will give blowing snow and very poor visibility, Environment Canada cautions. Winds are expected to ease Wednesday morning.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Heavy snowfall accumulation combined with strong winds may cause damage to trees or other structures.”
