Squamish RCMP continues to check vehicles as part of a December traffic blitz. Each December, police across the province do a campaign aimed at reducing impaired drivers on the road.
The campaign will last for a month, but police recently shared some statistics on the campaign. Squamish RCMP officers checked 108 cars in the past two weeks, administered eight roadside breath tests, six violation tickets unrelated to impaired driving.
One driver was issued immediate roadside prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act, and another person was found impaired.
Woman’s car towed
On December 12, local officers were doing traffic enforcement downtown when they saw a woman turn around on seeing officers. When officer spoke with her, they found that she had provided a false name and she was prohibited from driving. She was fined and her car was towed.
