Man arrested for arson after fire at downtown building

January 11, 2023 6:00pm

Squamish RCMP has arrested a man for setting a fire at a downtown residential building he was recently evicted from.

On January 5, 2022, just before noon, police received a call to assist Squamish Fire Rescue with a fire alarm call in the 37800 block of Third Ave. Police investigation has revealed the fire was set on purpose by a man who was recently evicted from the building.  Police arrested the man and he is due in court soon.

Impaired driving

Over the last week, officers on proactive patrol did two road checks to catch impaired drivers. In two cases, breath samples showed “FAIL,” resulting in 90-day driving prohibition and vehicle impoundment. In another such road check, an impaired driver who was earlier prohibited from driving was arrested for being drunk behind the wheel.
