Local detachment to close temporarily

Staff report
January 13, 2023 7:24am

The Squamish RCMP detachment will close temporarily on January 16, 2023, but interim services are available in the interim at the Municipal Hall during renovations.

Interim services for ticket payments or police information check (payments) will be available at Municipal Hall to ensure continuity of services, and the RCMP non-emergency phone lines will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the closure.

“An expanded front counter will allow Squamish RCMP to meet community public safety needs while creating more administrative workspaces within the detachment to satisfy increased demand,” says District of Squamish Director of Public Safety Megan Latimer. “The renovations will also feature design and materials upgrades that offer risk-reduction benefits for front counter staff.”

Once complete, the existing front counter will be expanded into the large lobby and include four kiosks to offer RCMP and Bylaw Enforcement Client Services.

The $155,000 project is being funded by the District of Squamish to enhance public services while minimizing risk to front desk staff. The duration of the closure is anticipated to be approximately five to six weeks.

Interim services available at Municipal Hall

Payments for Bylaw tickets or Police Information Checks may be made at Municipal Hall during regular hours of operation while renovations are underway. Municipal Hall front counter service is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 37955 Second Avenue.

Fingerprinting services temporarily unavailable

Civil fingerprinting services are temporarily suspended at the Squamish detachment while the closure is in effect. For immediate assistance or to book an appointment through the Commissionaires, please visit https://commissionaires.bc.ca/fingerprinting/

Non-emergency phone lines will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout closure at 604.892.6100. Non-emergency crimes may also be reported online at https://ocre-sielc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/squamish. For emergencies, please call 9-1-1.
