The Advisory Design Panel committee of the District will meet next week to discuss a development permit application for 18, three-bedroom townhomes proposed at 1070 Finch Drive.

The townhomes by local developer, Diamond Head Development, are part of the development planned during rezoning of the lots from RS-1 to mixed-use development to allow for duplexes, townhomes and apartments.

According to a District report, the property is on the east end of Finch Drive and accessible by an extension of Finch Drive that is currently under construction. The application is for 3-bedroom, 18 townhomes in three blocks, each one roughly 1,800 square feet in size. Pedestrian connection to Finch Drive is provided by a sidewalk along the strata road, and the townhomes are proposed to be built to Step 5 of the BC Energy Step Code and be net zero ready.

A gazebo and shared open space is proposed as well as a shared waste room for the townhomes is provided at the south end of the strata road, adjacent to the visitor parking stalls. Each unit provides two parking stalls, one inside the garage and one surface parking stall in front. Class A bicycle parking stalls are also located within the garage.

District staff supports the plan and are asking for the committee’s recommendation on building form and character, and landscaping. The ADP committee will meet to discuss the project on January 19.
