At a council meeting on February 7, Squamish council will vote on second reading for two rezoning applications for consolidated lots on Third Avenue.

The rezoning will consolidate single-family lots and allow six-storey buildings on the east and west side of Third Avenue. The application to rezone is for 38029-38045 Third Avenue (the West Side application) and 38028-38062 Third Avenue (the East Side application).

Three lots on west side will be consolidated for a six-storey mixed use building on west side with 45 apartments and 8 commercial units. Five properties on East Side will be consolidated for a six-storey building with 78 apartments and 20 commercial units.

The proponents will give $894,400 for critical amenities, and commit that 5% of the  East development will be given to a local non-profit housing provider to own and operate, for which the unit count and size will be determined by the non-profit.

There is also a commitment to provide frontage improvements including stormwater management and paving of lane from West and East developments to Winnipeg Street and improvements in front of 38021 Third Avenue. Both the buildings will be powered by electricity, and natural gas wont be permitted in either of the buildings.

District plans to schedule a public hearing for March 28.
