Coquihalla Highway closed between Hope and Merritt due to extreme weather

The Coquihalla Highway is closed between Hope and Merritt because of severe weather.  A travel advisory is in effect between the start of Highway 5 and Exit 286, from Hope to Merritt.

“Road is closed due to heavy congestion and extreme winter weather. Crews are working with heavy equipment to clear excess snow and create safe conditions,” says DriveBC.

Those travelling are asked to use alternate route via Hwy 1 and Hwy 3.  Meanwhile, Environment Canada has also issued a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway, from Hope to Merritt. Heavy snow will continue.
