staff report
April 20, 2024 8:59pm

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to multiple wildfires within the Cariboo Fire Centre. The largest of these is the Burgess Creek wildfire, which is approximately 50 hectares and located 45 kilometres south of Quesnel.

Due to strong winds, the Burgess Creek wildfire produces a large column of smoke visible from Highway 97, Williams Lake, and Quesnel.

Crews, aircraft and heavy equipment are on site. Three other fires south of Quesnel are also being monitored by aircraft and crews are responding as required. The Burgess Creek wildfire is out of control, which means a wildfire that is continuing to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts.

The suspected cause is human.
