One person was taken to hospital after an accident that shut down the Sea to Sky Highway on Friday, May 10. In a short statement, BC Emergency Health Services said it received a call on May 10 at 11:44 am.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 11:44 a.m. on May 10, 2024, about a motor vehicle incident on the Sea to Sky Highway near Britannia Beach. An Air ambulance, an Advanced Care Paramedic ambulance, and two Primary Care Paramedic ambulances responded to the scene,” said Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported by air ambulance to hospital.”

According to social media posts, the accident involved a motorcycle, but Twaites couldn’t confirm if the person taken to the hospital were a motorcycle rider. On May 2, police and emergency services responded to an accident on Sea to Sky Highway where a motorcycle rider was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash.

Motorcycle crashes in B.C. peak in the summer as warmer weather and conditions bring more riders onto the road. Six out of ten crashes involving a motorcycle in B.C. happen at an intersection. Police report that driver distraction, failing to yield the right of way, and improper turning are the top factors for vehicles that collide with motorcycles, according to ICBC.
