Special weather statement issued for Coquihalla Highway

staff report
May 17, 2024 6:21am

A special weather statement is in effect for Coquihalla Highway, from Hope to Merritt.

From now until Saturday morning, the warning is in effect for Coquihalla Highway, Okanagan Connector, Allison Pass, and Begbie Summit. Snowfall amounts to 2 to 5 cm, with locally higher amounts are possible.

An upper low will bring a cool airmass to higher elevations of the BC Interior today and into this long weekend. Colder air, along with precipitation, means the mountain passes are seeing some snow now. The rain will likely return to flurries tonight and Saturday morning, affecting transportation routes. Travellers should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Environment Canada cautions that mountain weather can change suddenly, resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Road conditions are available at drivebc.ca. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
