Squamish Days Loggers Sports announces new forestry education scholarship

staff report
July 4, 2024 7:26am

Squamish Days has introduced a $2,000 scholarship to support the future of forestry education.

This initiative aims to aid students pursuing post-secondary education or training in forestry-related fields. The announcement expresses gratitude for the ongoing support from the community, which includes numerous volunteers, sponsors, competitors, and attendees connected to the forest industry.

Applicants must reside in the Sea to Sky Corridor, from Lions Bay to Mount Currie.

Proof of enrollment in a forestry/natural resource program or a training program related to the forest industry within British Columbia is required.

Application Process:

To apply, candidates must submit a one-page essay (approximately 500-700 words) addressing the question: “What does the forest industry mean to you, and why is it important to the province of British Columbia?” Applicants are encouraged to include details about their family’s involvement in the industry and any relevant experience.

Essays should be emailed to celebrate [at] squamishdays.ca by July 22, 2024.

Selection and Recognition:

A panel of volunteers will review the essays with the names of applicants removed to ensure impartiality. The winner will be announced and honored at the 67th Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival. This scholarship underscores Squamish Days’ commitment to investing in the future of the forest industry, ensuring it remains a vital part of British Columbia’s economy and heritage.

The 67th annual Squamish Days Loggers Sports will take place from Aug 1 to Aug 4; tickets are on sale now.
