Motorcyclist dead in accident on Sea to Sky Highway

staff report
July 21, 2024 8:40am

A motorcyclist has died in an accident that took place on the Sea to Sky Highway on Friday.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson told Squamish Reporter that police were called to the scene of a collision between a motorcycle and a SUV on Hwy 99 at Ocean Point Dr. The accident happened on July 19 at 8:57 pm.

“Sadly the motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be minor in nature,” she said. The southbound lanes of Highway 99 were closed for a short time and later re-opened to a single lane. While the investigation is ongoing to determine what may have contributed to the crash, police do not believe alcohol was involved.

Two people were also taken to hospital with injuries after an accident south of Murrin Lake yesterday.

Yesterday, a fatal accident also claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Vancouver. Vancouver Fire Rescue Services was responding to a call at approximately 12:45 p.m. yesterday when the collision occurred.

It would be nice to get some more details. Who was at fault. Was the bike speeding and passing, or did the SUV make a bad lane change due to distraction.

Murrin Park has a lake called Browning Lake. There is no Murrin Lake.
