Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Howe Sound and Metro Vancouver, with heavy rain forecasted from this evening through Saturday morning. Between 50 and 70 millimetres is expected.
The warning is in effect for Howe Sound, North Shore, Metro Vancouver’s central and northeast regions, including Burnaby, New Westminster, and Coquitlam, the western Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford and Mission, and the Sea-to-Sky corridor from Squamish to Whistler.
The rainfall, driven by a robust and moisture-heavy frontal system, will begin late this afternoon in Howe Sound and the Sea-to-Sky corridor. Other regions will experience rain starting this evening. The heaviest downpours are expected overnight, easing by late Saturday morning as the system passes. Officials warn of potential hazards such as water pooling on roads and localized flooding, especially in areas with blocked storm drains. Low-lying areas are particularly at risk.
Drivers are advised to slow down and watch for reduced visibility. Residents should take precautions to mitigate flooding and monitor weather updates as conditions develop.
