A significant new development could soon reshape lands at the Capilano University area in Garibaldi Highlands. Andrews Development Management Corp. has submitted a proposal to bring a mix of residential and commercial spaces to the area.

The district posted the application recently on its development showcase.

The applicant proposes 340 apartments, 30 ground-oriented townhomes, and 54 detached multiplex units. Thirty percent of the residential units are planned as rental housing. It also includes 3,400 square meters of commercial retail space for multiple tenants.

The developer is also seeking a parking variance as part of the application.

Just curious if Canadian companies were approached before considering an American based company? Everyone I know is making an effort to shop Canadian- is the district doing the same?

This is a BC-based Canadian company to my knowledge.

A parking variance? In Squamish? What a novel concept! I’m sure Staff will whine about the shrubbery but be more than delighted to grant a parking variance.
