A GoFundMe has been launched for a Squamish family after their teenage son, Hunter Vallee-Brooks, faces a critical medical battle following a sudden cancer diagnosis.

Hunter was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Primary Mediastinal B-cell Lymphoma—a rare and aggressive form of cancer. His condition requires six months of intensive chemotherapy. In a further complication, Hunter underwent emergency heart surgery just days ago.

The ordeal began during Hunter’s first solo school trip to Poland, where he fell ill and required urgent care. What was meant to be a formative international experience quickly became a medical crisis. The family has since endured an emotional and financially draining effort to bring him home safely for treatment.

Hunter’s mother, Tamara, is self-employed and faces reduced income while hiring help to sustain her business. His father, Luke Brooks, must soon return to work as the family confronts rising expenses. The family is also exploring advanced personalized genetic oncology testing—a potential $24,000 cost not covered by public healthcare.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Hunter’s aunt, Justine Kendall Brooks, to help cover medical bills, living expenses, and essential care needs during this period of uncertainty.

“This is an incredibly difficult time, and we’re asking for support in any form—donations, prayers, or simply holding Hunter in your thoughts,” the family said in a statement.

This is so incredibly sad. So many more rare forms of cancer appearing after covid vaccinations… the government should have to pay for this!!! 😡
