The District of Squamish has announced a temporary partial closure of Smoke Bluffs Park following the sighting of a food-conditioned black bear in the area. Effective August 8, access to the playground and picnic zone near the end of Smoke Bluffs Road is closed until further notice as a precaution to ensure public safety.
District is urging anyone using the Smoke Bluff trails or other district parks to be extra vigilant. All visitors are required to securely store food, backpacks, and any scented items in a vehicle, hard-sided trailer, or bear-proof locker. Unattended bags or attractants should never be left in open spaces.
The Conservation Officer Service is actively monitoring wildlife activity in the park and will respond as needed to keep the community safe. Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any human-wildlife conflicts by calling the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277. The closure will remain in effect until DOS determine the area is safe to reopen.
