The Sea to Sky corridor is about to get a little more local.
Coastal Rides, British Columbia’s home-grown rideshare company, is proud to announce its official launch in the District of Squamish, offering a community-focused, driver-friendly alternative to the large U.S.-based rideshare platforms.
Born on the Sunshine Coast in 2020, Coastal Rides was built for British Columbians, by British Columbians, on the belief that ridesharing could — and should — be done differently.
The company’s mission is simple: to make transportation in smaller communities safer, easier, and more reliable — while keeping earnings and decision-making close to home. Coastal Rides supports the people who live and work here — not shareholders somewhere else.
To celebrate the launch, riders can enjoy $5 off every ride from November 1 to 7 by entering promo code SQUAMISH in the Coastal Rides app. “Our drivers aren’t anonymous contractors — they’re local entrepreneurs, your neighbours, and the people you bump into at the grocery store,” said Ryan Staley, Founder.
“This launch is another step toward building a true, province-wide mobility network that belongs to B.C.” Allison Pringle, General Manager, added, “Service begins at 7 a.m. Saturday. As we ramp up, check our availability first before other providers — let us be your first choice.” Coastal Rides is also actively recruiting owner-operators and drivers in the Squamish area. Interested applicants can learn more and apply at coastalrides.ca.

Would you mind doing a follow-up article on this subject, please. I’d be interested to know the price of business licences for Coastal Rides vs the well established taxi companies in Squamish. I’d be interested to know if the drivers pay licencing fees and liability beyond ICBC passenger vehicle rates. Please dig in to this topic a bit more than just advertising their availability. Will this hurt the employees and owners of existing businesses in Squamish?
