Driver arrested for dangerous driving, fleeing police on Sea to Sky Highway

Staff report
November 18, 2025 1:18pm

West Vancouver Police are seeking witnesses after a driver fleeing officers was arrested following a high-speed incident on the Sea to Sky Highway late last month.

Police say the incident began around 9:04 p.m. on October 30, when an officer conducting speed enforcement on Highway 1 in West Vancouver recorded a 2005 white Chrysler 300C travelling westbound at 194 km/h. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and continued north on Highway 99 toward Squamish.

Due to the vehicle’s excessive speed and the risk to the public, the officer did not pursue and instead alerted BC Highway Patrol and Squamish RCMP.

The Chrysler was later spotted speeding through Porteau Cove. BC Highway Patrol attempted to stop the driver, but the vehicle again failed to pull over. Officers then coordinated a response and deployed a spike belt about one kilometre north of Porteau Cove, successfully disabling the vehicle.

The driver was arrested for dangerous driving and fleeing police. After undergoing an alcohol screening, the individual was also issued an immediate 24-hour driving ban.

WVPD says it will be recommending two charges of flight from police and one charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code. RoadSafety BC has also ordered a 10-month prohibition on roadside driving. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage or information related to the incident to call West Vancouver Police at 604-925-7300 and reference file 25-11296.
