A Hong Kong man has been sentenced to seven years for his role in a violent, 13-hour home invasion during which a Port Moody family was terrorized, waterboarded, and their teenage daughter sexually assaulted for cryptocurrency.
Tsz Wing Boaz Chan pleaded guilty to break and enter to commit robbery, unlawful confinement, and sexual assault related to the April 27, 2024, attack. Details of the horrific night were outlined in a recent Provincial Court judgment.
13 Hours of Brutality
The ordeal began when four intruders, two of whom wore Canada Post-style uniforms, gained entry to the home. The gang immediately bound W.G., M.Y., and their daughter, E.G., with zap straps, seizing their electronics and demanding passwords under threat of violence.
The father, W.G., was severely beaten, stripped naked, and waterboarded several times as the gang demanded access to his Bitcoin accounts. The mother, M.Y., was also waterboarded and threatened with death in front of her husband to compel compliance.

The daughter, E.G., was subjected to sexual assault, forced to make false assault noises for her father to hear, and compelled to strip naked while being recorded for blackmail. Her passport was filmed alongside her to confirm her identity.
The perpetrators stole approximately $1.6 million USD in cryptocurrency overnight. The incident ended when E.G. escaped the following morning and called 911.
Chan was linked to the crime by DNA evidence and his rental of the getaway vehicle. Judge R. McQuillan described the attack as an “elaborately planned, violent home invasion motivated by greed.” Chan received a global seven-year sentence and was ordered to pay $50,000 in restitution to the victims.
