The Ministry of Environment and Parks says it’s on track to reopen the Stawamus Chief Trail in early April. The main hiking trail was closed after the route was damaged by a rockfall in late December.
A geohazard assessment conducted on January 2 confirmed two separate slide events: one on December 26, 2025 around 10:30 p.m., and December 29, 2025 around 11:00 a.m.
Rock scaling, to remove loose rocks and boulders from the cliff face, is scheduled to begin today, Feb. 27, and is expected to finish in early March. The ministry has a contract to reinstate the trail by March 31.
“For visitor safety, please obey all closures and avoid the area, as scaling activities may dislodge rocks and debris. Rangers will be on site to help ensure visitor safety,” The Ministry of Environment and Parks said in a statement
