BC Housing hopes to complete its Squamish Temporary housing project in Fall or Winter of 2026, but provides no specific timeline on site selection.

BC Housing announced it’s timeline for the project through a new webpage for the Squamish project.

There has been vocal opposition to the project, particularly over the potential use of Xwu’nekw Park at 37956 Loggers Lane, though the page states that no location has been finalized. Local business have also pushed back on the project, saying they want more detailed consultation ahead of site selection.

According to the website, BC Housing is considering both District-owned and non-District-owned sites, including 37956 Loggers Lane, for which due diligence is currently underway.

The project is part of BC Housing’s Heart and Hearth initiative and would provide stable housing for adults (19+) from the local area who are “at risk of experiencing homelessness.” BC Housing describes the program as typically serving people who have been staying in shelters for extended periods or who are currently unsheltered in the community.

The website says residents would have access to a range of supports, which often include 24/7 onsite staff, daily meals, life-skills training, social and recreational programming, connections to community and wellness supports, and access to permanent housing once available. BC Housing adds that it will eventually select an experienced non-profit operator to manage the site and provide services to residents.

Once a site is confirmed, BC Housing says it will contact area neighbours directly and update the webpage. In the meantime, those with questions were encouraged to reach out via email at communityrelations@bchousing.org.
