According to the media release, as chancellor, Doucette will serve as a member of the university’s Board of Governors and Senate, and act as an ambassador for the institution at ceremonial and official events.
“I’m honoured to join the CapU community and uphold the values that bring us together,” Doucette said. “Capilano University plays an important role in creating inclusive learning environments and strengthening the communities it serves.”
A University of British Columbia graduate, Doucette was appointed to the Order of British Columbia in 2021 and has received several additional honours, including the Joseph and Rosalie Segal United Way Community Vision Award. She has served on boards in the health care, education and non-profit sectors across the province.
R.J. Wallia, chair of CapU’s Board of Governors, welcomed the appointment. “Her distinguished leadership, deep commitment to equity and community stewardship, and dedication to public service make her an exceptional representative of CapU’s values,” Wallia said.
According to the media release, Doucette succeeds Yuri Fulmer, OBC, whose term as chancellor ends May 31, 2026, after serving in the role since April 2020.
Capilano University offers more than 100 programs across five faculties, with campuses in North Vancouver and Squamish serving British Columbia’s North Shore and Sea-to-Sky regions.
