A cliff jumping incident this week prompted Lions Bay Search and Rescue to warn about the dangers of the popular summer activity, after a 20 year old man dislocated his shoulder and had to be rescued from the water near Lions Bay.
Lions Bay SAR crews worked alongside RCM SAR to safely reach the man in the water. Rescuers helped him out of the water before transporting him to Horseshoe Bay, where BC Emergency Health Services took over his medical care.
Given the severity of the injury, the search and rescue team’s physician was able to reduce the dislocated shoulder while still on scene. This allowed the man to be safely moved into the rescue vessel for transport, easing both his pain and the difficulty of the evacuation.
Lions Bay Search and Rescue thanked all of the agencies involved, crediting the coordinated response and professionalism of everyone on scene for the incident’s successful outcome.
The rescue serves as a reminder that cliff jumping carries real risks, including injuries like dislocations, fractures or worse.
