Sea to Sky RCMP’s Whistler Detachment will conduct proactive safety education and enforcement efforts in the coming weeks, targeting e-bike riders, in partnership with the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s Bylaw team.
According to the news release, the summer season has brought a notable increase in bicycle use throughout Whistler, particularly on roadways and the Valley Trail network. As bicycle traffic grows, so does the importance of ensuring all users travel safely and responsibly.
According to the news release, the Whistler Detachment has received a growing number of community reports raising concerns about e-bike use, including excessive speeds, unsafe riding behaviours, lack of helmet use by some riders, and failure to comply with Motor Vehicle Act requirements when operating on roadways.
The upcoming enforcement efforts will focus on safe e-bike operation and Motor Vehicle Act compliance to promote a safer shared environment for both e-bike riders and pedestrians on roadways and the Valley Trail network.
According to the news release, the Sea to Sky RCMP is encouraging all bicycle and e-bike users to ride safely, obey traffic laws, and share pathways responsibly to ensure a safe environment for everyone travelling throughout the community.
