The District of Squamish announced the closure of a Downtown parking lot ahead of upcoming demolition work. According to the notice, the District has issued a demolition permit for construction at 38123 Cleveland Avenue, with work anticipated to start Friday, July 10.

As a result, the 2-hour parking lot at Cleveland Avenue and Winnipeg Street will close. Corsa Cycles had generously offered courtesy free parking at that location.

The notice lists several alternative free parking options in the Downtown core. For 2- and 3-hour parking, drivers can use the lot at 38174 Cleveland Avenue, across from the Co-Op gas station, which offers 2-hour parking, or the lot at 37950 Cleveland Avenue, adjacent to the Copper Coil restaurant, which offers 3-hour parking.

A lot at the east end of Main Street, adjacent to X̱wún̓eḵw Park, also offers 3-hour parking, though according to the notice, that lot is expected to reopen later this summer. Free street parking is also available along Cleveland and Second Avenues and cross streets, with the exception of Victoria Street.

For longer-term free parking, the notice points to street parking beyond the main commercial area past Second Avenue, as well as a gravel lot near the BC Hydro site at the north end of Downtown.
