Squamish residents will have a chance to connect with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind later this month when the CNIB Mobile Hub sets up at the Squamish Public Library.

The event runs Thursday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the library’s Community Meeting Room at 37907 Second Avenue.

The Mobile Hub is a newer program delivery model for CNIB, bringing in person programming directly into communities at no cost to attendees. Visitors can meet CNIB staff, try out assistive technology, and learn about local resources available to people who are blind, Deafblind, or living with low vision. The day is also meant for family members, friends, and caregivers who want to learn more.

The schedule includes a welcome session from 10 to 11 a.m., an introduction to assistive technology from 11 a.m. to noon, a pizza lunch from noon to 1 p.m., a peer support group from 1 to 2 p.m., and light refreshments and social time from 2 to 3 p.m. Throughout the day, the CNIB SmartLife shop will also be open for hands on demonstrations and purchases, with debit or credit accepted.

Registration is encouraged but not required. People can register online or by calling 1 800 563 2642.

The library notes the venue has an accessible washroom and a ramp entrance with handrails, and asks anyone needing further accommodations to note it on the registration page.
