Environment Canada has issued a Yellow level air quality warning for Howe Sound today, August 14, as wildfire smoke moves into the region.
According to the news release by Environment Canada, smoke is expected to affect the area over the next 24 to 48 hours, with regions of B.C. likely to be impacted during that window.
Smoke conditions during a wildfire can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour by hour, the release noted. For regions under yellow warnings, exposure to smoke can affect health, and residents are advised to postpone or reduce strenuous outdoor activities until the warning ends and to spend time indoors in a space with cleaner air.
According to the news release, some people are more likely to be negatively affected by smoke, including those with lung and heart conditions, pregnant individuals, infants and young children, people aged 65 and older, and anyone whose health is affected by a chronic or acute illness.
