Britannia Mine Museum will host two weekends of Halloween activities this month, featuring monster machines, underground train tours and live science demonstrations.

The event, Britannia: Monsters, Machines & Mischief!, runs October 17 and 18 and October 24 and 25 at the museum in Britannia Beach.

Special Halloween-themed underground train tours will invite visitors to join a rescue crew investigating mysterious machine malfunctions in the mine tunnel. Demonstrations, hands-on challenges and problem-solving activities will explore how miners used compressed air, transportation systems, machinery and teamwork.

The museum’s Machine Shop will feature six monster machines inspired by equipment used in mining operations. Visitors can learn about their roles in moving earth and hauling rocks, and how mining machinery has changed over time.

Other activities include exploding pumpkin science demonstrations and magnetic slime-making for children and families. Visitors can also take in the BOOM! special effects show inside historic Mill No. 3.

Gold panning and exhibits in the Britannia Story building and Beaty Lundin visitor centre will also be available.

More information and tickets are available on the Britannia Mine Museum website.
