North Vancouver based outerwear manufacturer and retailer Arc’teryx will open its first flagship retail store in Whistler.

Located at 4338 Main Street, adjacent to the Whistler Olympic Plaza, this 2,400 square-foot store will open to the public on June 7, 2014 at 10 a.m.

Local customers will now have access to Arc’teryx’s complete line of products beginning with the current 2014 Spring/Summer collection, according to a media release issued by the company. arcytreyx

Customers will also have the opportunity to learn about the company’s innovative design process via special engagement areas inside the store.

“Whistler is core to Arc’teryx; it helps inspire our concepts and acts as a testing ground for our products,” said Adam Ketcheson, VP/Senior Director, Marketing & B2C.

In celebration of this grand opening, Arc’teryx is hosting a scavenger hunt across Squamish and Whistler.

On May 24 & 25, and then on May 31 & June 1, people can search for an Arc’teryx chalk bag in locations that highlight Arc’teryx’s products and commitment to outdoor lifestyles.

Each bag will contain instructions on how to redeem the prize – a $200 gift certificate redeemable at the new Whistler store.

Not that it really matters a lot to me, but I am very curious as to why this firm has a name which has apparently been derived from vertebrate palaeontology…specifically the famous avian fossil Archaeopteryx…having a Biology background myself.
Someone please explain before I have a “bird” (so to speak)!
