Lock your car doors at night: Squamish RCMP

September 27, 2019 11:24am

Squamish RCMP is urging residents to lock their cars after a spate of theft from car incidents in town. Sgt. Sascha Banks of Squamish RCMP said three theft from autos occurred this past week in Squamish.

In all three cases, car doors were left unlocked. Tools, an iPhone, and a debit card was stolen, and it subsequently used fraudulently.

Police want to remind residents to secure their vehicles as best they can by locking doors, utilizing security devices if available, and stow valuables in alternate locations or out of plain view.

Banks didn’t specify the location of the thefts but discussion on social media indicates theft from auto reports from Valleycliffe, and on Westway in particular.

A 2016 grey Kia Optima was stolen from Lions Bay, and it was likely used in theft from autos in the Lions Bay and Furry Creek areas.

The vehicle was later located in Surrey and a male from Surrey has been arrested. RCMP encourage residents to keep an eye out for each other and report any suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, RCMP continues to conduct school zone enforcement in local schools. Police is again reminding drivers that school zones are 30 km/h for drivers, and run from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm on school days.
