Construction of new trail in Valleycliffe starts in May

staff report
April 28, 2020 12:49pm

The District of Squamish is planning to construct a three-metre-wide paved, multi-use trail path along ‘lower’ Clarke Drive from Highway 99 to Guilford Drive.

The trail will extend the existing Corridor Trail that connects to downtown.

The trail, district says, will fill in a gap in the Corridor Trail between Valley Drive and Downtown, and will also connect to the new development on the west side of the highway.

The trail will be protected by a barrier and will include a lit centralized crosswalk. Construction is expected to begin in May and will continue until September this year.

District said these upgrades will improve safety in the light of higher traffic volumes to and from Valleycliffe. District is also working on improving the discovery trail connection to Highway 99 at Industrial Way.

This project will widen the Discovery Trail and will include a raised sidewalk and fence for an improved connection to safely cross Industrial Way at Highway 99.

Meanwhile, district also awarded contract for a protected pathway along Government Road for students and residents walking and riding in Brackendale.

The project involves building a 225 metre multi-use pathway on the east side of Government Road. The pathway is to be 3 metres wide, paved, and separated from Government Road with a barrier.
