A Squamish entrepreneur has applied to rezone land on Cleveland Avenue to build a four-storey hotel in Downtown Squamish.

Rodney Wilson, the owner of Airhouse, is proposing a 32-to-48-unit hotel at 37773 Cleveland Avenue.

The proposed hotel site is at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Vancouver Street, and close to the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing.

The hotel is still in the design phase, but the plan is to have a ground floor commercial space or a restaurant and a parkade and three levels of hotel with a roof deck and rooftop amenity space.

The hotel is still in the design phase, and a name has not been decided yet. It is being designed by hunter OFFICE, a local architecture firm.

Wilson said he wanted a commercial development over residential and says the hotel would add to long-term employment opportunities in the downtown core.

“We are focused on attracting the outdoor adventurist clientele for which Squamish is best known for,” he said.

The construction and opening date are subject to rezoning and development timelines, and said the project will move as fast as the process allows, he said.

Wilson said he is excited by the future oceanfront development and the Official Community Plans of the district.

“We see this particular piece of property to be part of the gateway for the oceanfront and an opportunity to utilize a currently unused industrial space,” he said.
