Police arrested a 67-year-old man from Squamish for shoplifting in Whistler.
On May 6, at approximately 6:20 pm, Whistler RCMP were notified of a theft from a store in the 2000 block of Lake Placid Road in Creekside area of Whistler.
Police learned that the suspect fled south-bound on Highway 99 with stolen product worth hundreds of dollars. At approximately 8:30 pm, Squamish RCMP located the vehicle and took the driver into custody.
Police were able to recover some of the items that had been reported stolen by the business. He has since been released, pending the approval of charges.
BMW impounded on Highway 99
On May 9, at approximately 8:30 am, Squamish RCMP notified Whistler RCMP of a group of north-bound, high-end vehicles, speeding on Highway 99.
Police stopped a vehicle driving at 147 kilometres per hour in a 90 kilometre per hour zone. The 29-year-old driver from Surrey was issued a violation ticket for speeding.
His car, a 2019-model BWM 850, was impounded for seven days.
Whistler RCMP said it is committed to taking a zero-tolerance approach to drivers who choose to risk their safety and the safety of others on the roads.
