A Squamish couple is hoping to give locals a fresh taste of comfort classics with a new food truck serving burgers.
James Oldenburger and Lena Exler are working on opening Flipside Burgers by the end of August. The couple hopes to serve locals in downtown Squamish, somewhere easy to park, walk and sit to enjoy burgers.
Menu items will include three Flipside staples: Beef, chicken and vegetarian burgers. There will also be a weekly burger feature and a fish burger, from time to time. They also plan to offer fresh salads for a lighter option.
“We also have Squamish in mind when it comes to dietary needs by offering vegan and gluten-free burger options. We will be offering sides that pair well with burgers or just to snack on its own,” he said.
James says needs of the community were on top of their mind when they created the menu.
“We’ve developed a fresh take in a comfort classic. We will be serving buns from a local bakery, and local organic beef, along with other fresh, local and organic ingredients when possible,” he said.
James says he has been entertaining the idea of owning and running a gastro pub, but COVID-19 made him decide to go the food truck route. He has worked in the restaurant industry over the past 15 years, from creating tasty gelato to slinging drinks at the Knotty Burl to tossing hand-made pizza dough at Backcountry, he says.
Flipside Burgers will also be available for catering for weddings, block parties and private events. Locals can check them out on Facebook at Flipside Burgers, and on Instagram at Flipsideburgers_squamish.
