Sea to Sky gondola cable line cut again

staff report
September 14, 2020 7:55am

The Sea to Sky Gondola cable line has been cut again, a year-and-a-month after it was first vandalized.

Kirby Brown, the manager of the Sea to Sky Gondola, told Mountain FM Radio that several gondola cabins came crashing to the ground because of the second act of vandalism.

“Something you’d never think would happen, once in a lifetime, has happened twice,” Brown told the local radio.

“An individual climbed a tower and, despite our security system and all of the measures, rapidly cut through the cable and brought the gondola to the ground.”

The police is investigating but has yet to release a statement.

“We are not going to get one person bring us or the town down,” Brown said, adding that this is “one bad actor who needs to be caught and brought to justice for the safety of us all.”

“We’ve got clear imagery of what happened,” Brown also added.

Brown said no one was injured and no one was on the gondola cabins when it was vandalised at 4 am.

“We will fix this, and we will get back up and running, and we will catch this guy this time with the information we have. This person needs to be caught and brought to justice and his motives understood.”

Meanwhile, Squamish RCMP are asking the public to stay away from the area.

We took my legally blind friend up the gondola and it was the thrill of a lifetime for him. He can see shapes and the ride up was incredible. We got him on video. I held his dog while he was escorted over the suspension bridge. So thank you Sea to Sky Gondola for providing such a bright day for this young man. I hope the person who did this understands all the people he hurts.

As an annual pass holder, I am deeply sadden and my heart is empty this morning, after learning of the second cut to the Sea to Sky Gondola. It is devastating to the business and our community.
There was a certain group opposing the build of the gondola from the begging.
Hello, did anyone thought about it? Are they being investigated???
This must be called the true name people, it is the “TERRORISM”, stop calling it vandalism.
The RCMP, with all my respect, obviously has not made any impact with their investigation from the last year’s act, so the terrorist(s) did not even think there would be any obstacles to do it again…
I really do not like the secretive work of police and politically correct press releases, where we as a public are not told anything about the very organized and powerful groups who operate around us in Canada. The RCMP should start raising alarms and informing the public what is really happening.
They are so good on writing the speed tickets on the highway, but when it comes to serious work, seems that no one knows anything… This is so sad, sad and sad…
