Two people charged for allegedly feeding bears in Whistler

staff report
September 15, 2020 3:14pm

Two people are facing charges in connection with allegedly feeding black bears in Whistler.

In July 2018, the BC Conservation Officer Service launched an investigation after receiving an anonymous complaint that residents of the Kadenwood neighbourhood in Whistler were deliberately feeding bears.

The suspects had allegedly purchased large quantities of apples, carrots, pears, eggs and almonds to leave out for the bears.

In June this year, charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service and a warrant was issued for both individuals.

On August 16, one of the individuals returned to Canada and was detained by the Canada Border Services Agency at the Vancouver International Airport.

The charges include intentionally feeding dangerous wildlife and attracting dangerous wildlife.

They will appear before court on November 18 in North Vancouver.
