Garibaldi Way is unsafe for any kind of active transportation, be it walking, biking, or even strolling.
Active transportation on Garibaldi Way is nearly impossible when there is snow on the ground or on garbage pick up days, not to mention the several cars parked on the shoulder despite the No Parking signs.
It is the objective 20.15 of the Official Community Plan to “Sustainably fund alternative transportation infrastructure and amenities as Squamish grows”.
Squamish is growing and heavily so in the Highlands and traffic zooms by on Garibaldi Way at extreme speed, rendering it very unsafe to walk, bike, or even cross.
Incoming traffic is also not visible in the vicinity of the curve where Garibaldi Cres and Cheakamus Way meet Garibaldi Way, making this area even more unsafe for pedestrians, bikes, dogs, and strollers.
Every family living on Parkway Rd, Ridgeway Cres, Park Cres, Cheakamus Way, Cheakamus Pl, Garibaldi Cres, Read Cres, and Read Pl must use Garibaldi Way to access the active route to school sidewalk on Diamond Road and to get to Mamquam Elementary School.
The sidewalk on Diamond Road only gives a direct safe active route to school for families living on Diamond Road and Hood Road.
However, it needs to be extended on Garibaldi Way.
A sidewalk on Garibaldi Way would also be beneficial by adding active transportation connectivity in Garibaldi Estates to the commercial area near by.
