A drunk driver’s licence was suspended and car impounded after the driver falsely claimed a hit-and-run on Highway 99.
On November 20, Squamish RCMP received a report of a hit-and-run collision near Porteau Cove on Highway 99.
Police attended and noted that the damage was inconsistent with the driver’s report.
Evidence on the scene indicated the collision had happened with the road barrier, and not with another vehicle.
A failed breathalyzer test later revealed the driver was driving under the influence.
The driver was issued a 90 day license suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Donald Patrick says
Good on the Police …. so many of these false claims over the years are one of the major reasons that our insurance rates are higher than expected …. bodily injuries are beyond the scope of the police …. but many folks exaggerate the situations to a point of the ridiculous and you will see their pictures on TV adds stating about how much more they received by attending certain legal firms for assistance, of course, the amount of the invoice for the service is never publicized
