A Downtown Squamish sushi restaurant is offering first responders and health-care workers free meals this month.

Sushi Goemon will be offering free take-out meals for health care workers on December 24 and 25.

The free meal will be offered from 12 pm to 4 pm, and workers will need to show their ID at the restaurant to pick up their order.

The restaurant will only be open for this initiative and will be closed to the public on these dates.

“There is no limit in terms of the number of free meals served per day.  We will be serving free meals between 12 pm to 4 pm,” said Mari Otomo, whose parents own the restaurant.

Workers can choose an item from the following: Choice of 2 rolls (cucumber roll, avocado roll, veggie roll, California roll, dynamite roll), Chicken Teriyaki Bento, Beef Teriyaki Bento, and Sushi Bento.

“Many people are working over the holidays to keep the community safe and they are not able to have a meal with their families, so this is something small we can offer at Sushi Goemon,” Mari said.

The community is also being invited to prepare small care packages to go along with the orders.

These bags can include pre-packaged treats like cookies, chocolates, other treats, and personal items like nice soaps and bath bombs to go along with their order.

These packages can be dropped off by December 23.

This is not the first time the restaurant has offered free meals for health-care workers and first responders. In March this year too, Sushi Goemon recognized first responders and front-line workers by offering them free meals.

“People were so appreciative of the first initiative back in March, so we wanted to continue supporting our community,” Mari said.
