Staff report
March 5, 2021 11:59am

Vancouver Coastal Health will be renovating the secure mental health room in Squamish General Hospital’s emergency department.

Work on the project begins next month, and is expected to complete in May.

The project is expected to cost $200,000.

The funding was approved by the Sea to Sky Regional Hospital District, a committee of SLRD, which gets annual funding requests from Vancouver Coastal Health.

When a project is approved, SLRD pays for 40 per cent of the expense, while the rest of the funding comes from the province.

Besides the renovation of the mental health space, four other Squamish hospital projects have been approved by the hospital committee.

Medical vacuum pumps, medical air compressor and dryers will be replaced at a cost of $92,000.

As much as $90,000 will go towards replacing fire sprinklers and dry pendant heads, while $720,000 over the two years will go towards replacing the fluoroscopy unit at the hospital.

There are also plans to replace water piping and a generator at the Squamish General Hospital.

In Whistler, $500,000 has been allocated over two years to renovate the trauma room.

A project to de-ice the heliport surface in Whistler has also received $70,000 from the committee.
