Squamish RCMP responding to gas leak at McDonald’s; please avoid the area

Emergency crews and police are responding to a gas leak at the McDonald’s on Cleveland and Sea to Sky Highway.

The incident happened when a a car hit a gas line around 11:40 am.

 

Squamish Fire Rescue, Emergency Health Services, Hydro, Fortis, and RCMP are on scene.

Police notified local schools in the area and students are safe and permitted outside on school grounds.  Staff in nearby businesses who were initially evacuated are also in the process of returning to resume operations.

There are no traffic closures, and response teams are working at opening up the area to pedestrians, police said.

Squamish RCMP asks anyone with any information to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100.

The 7-Eleven is expected to be back in operation shortly while Mcdonald’s will be out of service until further notice.

    People are so stupid. The idiots that hit the gas line, were trying to eat their takeout food as they left the drive thru. They veered the vehicle and took out the gas meter. Stupid idiots. They should have to pay for the repairs etc to McDonald’s.
